Hallo beste mensen,

ik weet niet of iemand deze blog nog leest (ik vergeet hem zelf ook nog wel eens) maar hier is nog even een nieuwsflash over Marinduque (zie Rico Sanchez onderaan; hij heeft de wonderlijke eigenschap OVERAL van op de hoogte te zijn).

Ander nieuws: zeven van onze producten uit de Filippijnen worden op de Ambiente (interieurbeurs) in Frankfurt getoond. Ruth en ik gaan proberen daar dit weekend heen te gaan.

BOAC, MARINDUQUE—No one seems to know the origin of the oil sludge that is now starting to destroy the shores of 13 coastal areas of Marinduque, not even provincial officials led by Gov. Carmencita Reyes. But the Coast Guard, with the help of the Marinduque Diving Team (MDT), found what it said were valuable pieces of evidence that might help determine the culprit.
Patches of solidified oil were seen by fishermen floating in the waters of the affected barangays on Saturday evening.

On Sunday morning, the oil patches had spread and reached the island’s shorelines.
An aerial inspection conducted by the Coast Guard on Sunday, however, yielded negative results on the presence of oil slicks on the island’s sea waters. In a massive cleanup of the shorelines of the affected barangays yesterday morning, a fisherman was able to retrieve a garbage bag sealer smudged with oil, which was believed to have come from one of the ships spotted by fishermen 12 km from the shore.

It was turned over to Dr. Josue Victoria, an MDT member, for further analysis and verification.
Water and sand samples were likewise sent to Manila for laboratory testing. Provincial officials fear that the ships that were spotted by the fishermen might be carrying oil wastes gathered from Guimaras and might have dumped the oil sludge in the waters of Marinduque, thus the presence of the garbage bag sealer. A large ship was seen by fishermen anchored 12 km from the shores of Barangay Laylay, from Wednesday to Friday last week. However, they were not able to identify the vessel because nobody among them sailed close to it.

Nonato Jalimbawa, a fisherman from Barangay Laylay, one of the affected villages, said that on Saturday, as his group was fishing 10 km from the shore, they encountered oil patches with traces of hair strands. “I am sure that the floating oil patches had hair strands because I personally scooped a floating oil patch and immediately noticed the strands.” In an effort to clean up the affected shorelines, Reyes and Boac Mayor Meynardo Solomon mobilized 3,000 villagers Saturday morning.

The 13 affected coastal villages of Boac were identified as Kawit, Bunganay, Amoingon, Caganhao, Balaring, Ihatub, Laylay, Tabigue, Lupac, Pili, Balogo, Buliasnin and Maligaya—whose shorelines are estimated to be 15-18 km long. However, as the cleanup was ongoing, village officials from Bahi and Masiga of Gasan town reported the presence of oil patches along their shores, increasing the number of affected villages to 15. Bahi and Masiga are adjacent to the town of Boac. Reyes has assigned the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office, headed by Danilo Querijero, to monitor closely the cleanup activities. Sand and stones smudged with oil will be used as filling materials by the Department of Public Works and Highways in the province.

Rico Sanchez, another MDT member, said he hoped that the oil sludge had caused no further damage to the marine ecosystems.>>

Hallo lieve mensen

Weer een ander plan voor Marinduque: pinpas opsturen brengt toch risico's met zich mee waarvan ik niet weet of we die moeten nemen. Ook hoorde ik van verschillende kanten dat persoonlijk brengen toch de beste manier was. We hebben weer met Rico overlegd, en gevraagd of hij het ok vindt als we het geld meenemen wanneer we weer teruggaan. Dit wordt dan pas in mei, maar dan weten we wel zeker dat het er komt, en dan kunnen we gelijk verslag uitbrengen van de besteding, en foto's ter plaatse maken.

Dus.... ik hoop dat jullie dit ook allemaal een goed idee vinden. En ander nieuws: ik had jullie verteld dat Rico's hoofdproduct lamineerproducten waren met vlinders ertussen. Hij verhandelt ook coconnen, en heeft nu een klant in Nederland gevonden! Iemand in Drenthe die blijkbaar exotische vlindersoorten verkoopt, aan dierentuinen ofzo, ik weet niet. Weet ook niet hoe hij het geregeld heeft, maar wel tof!

Een geweldig nieuw jaar gewenst aan iedereen die deze blog leest.

We hebben het volgende nieuws: Rico is tijdens kerst en oud en nieuw met zijn familie bij zijn ouders op het zuidereiland geweest (Mindanao) om (zoals hij het omschreef) even aan de deprimerende situatie op Marinduque te ontsnappen. Hij is net weer terug.

Ik heb een tip gekregen over de verhandeling van het geld, want dat is niet makkelijk. Deze tip was: de pinpas opsturen naar Rico, en als hij hem ontvangen heeft de code per sms of email naar hem zenden. Op deze manier denk ik dat we de grootste zekerheid hebben dat alle euro's goed terechtkomen.

Goed nieuws: de teller staat op 4.798,- EURO!

Hallo,

allereerst wil ik mijn gote waardering uitspreken voor de betrokkenheid die mensen hier aan de dag leggen. De teller is nu 3700 euro gepasseerd, en dat is meer dan ik had durven hopen: fantastisch!

We hebben een medewerker van Impulsis (ontwikkelingsorganisatie) gesproken, die vertelde ons dit bedrag te willen verdubbelen. Echter dan moeten we het door hen laten sturen en moet het in de Flippijnen ook door een organisatie ontvangen worden (met verklaring van besteding enz). Omdat dit tijd kost en er 2 organisaties tussenkomen denk ik dat we toch bij ons eerste plan blijven: direct naar Rico doorsluizen, dan weten we zeker dat het op de goede plek terecht komt, en dat ze elke cent te zien krijgen.

Anyway, ik houd jullie op de hoogte, een hele fijne kerst, en een jaar vol vrede, geluk en warmte toegewenst!

Hallo iedereen,

Zo we zijn zaterdag 9december weer veilig in Nederland aangekomen. Dit was niet zo vanzelfsprekend na de laatste dagen. Die Typhoon waarover het vorige bericht ging, bleek iets sterker dan verwacht.Het werd signaal 4 en dit word ook wel een super typhoon genoemd.Dit was weer een nieuwe spannende ervaring voor ons (na de aardbevingen) en ook voor de mensen op het eiland, normaal komen daar nooit super typhoons voor.

30 november van 8 uur s'avonds tot 6 uur in de ochtend werd het eiland onveilg gemaakt door de super typhoon "Reming"Gelukkig was ons huis stevig en hebben we het voorste gedeelte van het huis geevacueerd naar achteren en zijn we er met de schrik vanaf gekomen. Al zijn volgens mij alle daken van de andere hutjes op het eiland+ plus de palmbomen en kokosnoten tegen ons huis aan gevlogen.
De volgende ochtend toen we weer "veilig" naar buiten konden troffen we een enorme ravage aan. Meer dan 1000 huisjes ingestort of dakloos. Heel veel kokosnotenbomen omgewaaid, bijna alle electrischiteitsmasten omgevallen. En geen bananenboom meer intact op het eiland. Niet alleen zijn er heel veel mensen dakloos maar ook zijn ze voor de komende jaren hun inkomen kwijt.Aangezien de meeste mensen op het eiland hun geld verdienen met kokosnoten en bananenteelt. Van deze gewassen is weinig levensvatbaars over.

Een nieuwe bananenboom heeft ongeveer 3 jaar nodig om bananen te produceren en een kokosnotenboom heeft 20 jaar nodig om er zo uit te zien als die bomen op het eiland voordat de Typhoon kwam. Het eiland is dus weer 20 jaar terug in de tijd, en ze hadden het al niet zo breed. Maandag en dinsdag na de Typhoon ging de familie Sanchez met een pickup truck voedselpakketten en kaarsen rondbrengen op het eiland, samen met congressman Edmundo Reyes Jr.Wij zijn mee gegaan om rijst te sjouwen en ons medeleven te betuigen.
Dit werd erg gewaardeerd, het zijn allemaal hele dankbare en vrolijke mensen.Verder hebben we al onze kleren en andere spullen die hun harder nodig hadden dan wij achter gelaten, maar dit is niet genoeg. Ruth en ik willen daarom dan ook geld inzamellen voor de wederopbouw en nieuwe alternatieve voor inkomsten bedenken. Dus mocht je wat geld kwijt kunnen,... we hebben een rekening geopend:

Oh en dit geld gaat direct naar de mensen, daarvoor hebben we voldoende betrouwbare contacten. Verder hebben Ruth en ik het super naar ons zin gehad en zijn we verliefd geworden op dit verassende land. Vooral Marinduque heeft ons hart gestolen. Door de Typhoon hebben we het werk niet goed kunnen afsluiten en daarom willen we graag zo snel mogenlijk terug om te zorgen dat we nog verder kunnen afronden. En mischien kunnen we nog helpen op andere vlakken.

Blijkt trouwens dat ze nu ook weer aardbevingen hebben in Marinduque sinds 9 december. En een nieuwe Typhoon op 9 december heeft Marinduque geraakt, waardoor er flashfloods zijn ontstaan. Arme mensjes, het ene natuurverschijnsel na het andere, je kunt in iedergeval niet zeggen dat het een saai land is.

As if Supertyphoon Reming's lashing was not enough, typhoon Seniang (international codename: Utor) made its presence felt in this province by bringing heavy rains that triggered flash floods Sunday night.As a result, a six-year-old boy drowned and hundreds of properties and agricultural crops were destroyed.
John Jerick Rey, a grade 1 student at Buangan Elementary School, was crossing a creek with his 67-year-old aunt, Luciana Sajol, in Sitio Mabocda, in the village of Buangan, in the town of Torrijos, Sunday night, when the victim was carried by strong water current.The boy's body was found later Monday morning along the shoreline of Buangan.The boy's family was about to evacuate to a safe location when the incident happened.

"It was a double whammy for us Marinduqueños. We have not yet recovered from the onslaught caused by typhoon Reming and now we have to deal with the damages brought by typhoon Seniang," said Representative Edmundo Reyes Jr., lone representative of the province of Marinduque.

According to Rico Sanchez, a team leader of the Provincial Disaster Coordinating Council, the casualties could have been higher if not for the immediate action made by the emergency response team organized by the provincial government headed by Governor Carmencita Reyes.
Together with a 15-man disaster response team from the Philippine National Red Cross and the National Disaster Coordinating Council, the province's emergency response team, led by Congressman Reyes himself, rushed to the villages of Lapu-Lapu and Tawiran in the town of Santa Cruz at 10 p.m., Sunday night to assist and help evacuate residents from the villages.

"We were at the PDCC's monitoring office in Boac, together with the congressman and the governor, when we received a report from our members in Sta. Cruz that the two villages were being battered by flood waters coming from the mountains," said Sanchez."We had a hard time going to Sta. Cruz as water-swept trees and debris littered the roads. Since Congressmen Reyes and his team went first, there was an instance that he got out of his vehicle and had to use a power saw himself to help his companions cut the trees that were blocking the roads," Sanchez added.

Upon their arrival at the said villages, they immediately went to work, evacuating every resident who lived along the river banks."Since the designated areas for evacuation areas were likewise reached by the floodwaters, the Filipinos' 'bayanihan' system came into fore as fellow villagers, whose houses are situated in safe areas, let affected families stay with them for the night," related Reyes.
The village of Lapu-Lapu took the brunt of the flash floods as waters destroyed houses along their way. A large portion of the village was submerged in waist-deep waters.As the flood waters subsided Monday morning, traces of the destruction were evident. Around 20 houses were either partially or totally damaged. Affected residents had to remove mud and waters inside their homes.

The municipal government immediately dispatched heavy equipment and vehicles, such as backhoes and graders, to clear the streets of mud and debris.Classes at the Bitik Elementary School were suspended as classrooms were rendered unusable because of the accumulated debris inside the rooms."As I have said in an interview earlier this week, Marinduqueños definitely have an enormous amount of pain, suffering and grief from massive loss of properties and livelihood at present because of the fury of typhoon Reming. Now, Seniang added insult to injury by aggravating our people's emotional sufferings with its own version of destruction," Reyes lamented.

Ik geloof dat we onze 1ste Typhoon gaan meemaken. Er varen geen boten meer naar het eiland, dus Rico en Laura zitten vast in Manila.
Als het goed is krijgen we hier typhoon signal 3, en dat is behoorlijk heftig als we het goed begrijpen. Maar als we in het huis blijven is er waarschijnlijk niks aan de hand.
Tot nu toe hebben we nog nergens last van. Maar het blijkt zo te zijn dat er meestal een tijd geen stroom na een typhoon. Dus als jullie niks van ons horen betekend dit waarschijnlijk dat de stroom uit is gevallen.

Als de telefoonmasten niet omwaaien, zijn we wel te bereiken (totdat de batterij op is) op onze mobieltjes.
